South Valley SC’s soccer skills training program for 4 and 5-year-olds begins on April 22. This is a tract of twelve sessions specifically designed for very young players to have fun while learning soccer fundamentals. The sessions are run by coach Shelby Carter. Wow . . . what a ride! South Valley’s G02 team, coached by Troy Lynch, began their 2014 President’s State Cup run on February 15 and eight matches later, they found themselves playing in this prestigious tournament’s Final Four! Even though they lost the semi-final match to the Eagles, the girls played excellent soccer at the highest level in CalSouth. Along the way, they defeated teams from Legends, CSC San Diego, MB Sand & Surf, FC Golden State, Fullerton Rangers, and West Coast FC United. History was made with the G02’s going the deepest of any South Valley team in a national State Cup tournament. Great job girls!

This past weekend, South Valley’s G97 and G98 teams, coached by Jason Carter and assisted by Jeff Darling and Jordon Points, played in the Northern California Showcase in the San Francisco Bay Area. Both teams’ performances were top-notch with the G97s placing second in their flight and with the G98s finishing as champions. In the four matches each team played, they turned in solid defensive efforts, only allowing one goal and two goals, respectively. Some of the teams they defeated teams were Santa Clara Sporting, Jueventus, Real Sacramento, Castro Valley SC, and Boise Nationals. It was a great way to start the spring club season!

South Valley SC has scheduled this year’s U8 through U14 try-out session for Saturday, March 01, 2014. Player check-in will start at 9am underneath the covered patio area of Liberty Park. Parents or guardians must accompany the players during the check-in process. The try-out session will last until 11am, including warm-up, functional training, and small-sided games. In addition, a specialized training session will be provided for goal-keepers.

Currently, South Valley has thirteen teams in the U8 through U14 age-groups, including boys and girls teams, and we are excited to continue to grow our teams and our younger age-groups!

Numerous South Valley SC teams competed in the 2013 Nomads Thanksgiving Tournament, notching two semi-finalists and one champion! This was a great showing for our teams and only the second time in Nomads Thanksgiving Tournament history that a girls’ team from Bakersfield won a top-flight championship.

Coach Jason Carter’s G98 team went the distance, going undefeated in six matches, scoring nine goals and only allowing two goals. They won the U15 girls’ top flight, defeating teams from southern CA and from Utah.

South Valley also had three other teams with excellent tournament showings. G00 Chambers was a quarterfinalist, losing in PKs late Saturday night. Coach Jason Carter’s G97 team and Coach Shelby Klippel’s G95 team were both semi-finalists, with the G95s losing in PKs. Overall, a lot of great South Valley soccer was played and enjoyed in the beautiful San Diego weather!
